Featured: Koen Harssema’s graduation
Koen Harssema successfully completes graduation internship
Koen Harssema successfully completed his graduation internship. Koen is studying Mechanical Engineering at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen.
During his internship, he researched the technical feasibility of nuclear-powered vessels. The study focused on the application of so-called Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), which, thanks to their compact and modular design, could offer opportunities for the maritime sector in terms of sustainability and emissions reduction.
Thanks to his efforts, Marine Service Noord gained a clearer understanding of the current state of the technology, the different types of reactors and their associated technical challenges and benefits. The research also provides insight into the potential financial opportunities and the role nuclear energy could play in the future of shipping.
We would like to congratulate Koen on successfully completing his internship and thank him for his valuable contribution to MSN. We wish him every success in his future career!
